Chapter 15 - A Place Called HomeThree months later.

The summer warmth had arrived in full force, turning the park near River Line Drive into a lush, green canopy of oak and maple trees.

On the manicured lawn of a stunning historic estate overlooking the river—a home Daniel had purchased and renovated specifically to escape the sterile high-rise apartment—a small wooden playhouse stood beneath the shade of an ancient willow tree.

Lucy, wearing a yellow sundress and small white sneakers, was running across the grass, holding a small wooden airplane high above her head and making loud swooping noises.

"Look, Daddy! Look how high it flies!" Lucy giggled, her copper curls bouncing in the warm breeze.

Daniel, dressed casually in a linen shirt and dark trousers, was sitting on a wooden bench nearby. At the sound of her voice, his face lit up with a brilliant, happy smile. "That's incredible, sweetheart! Keep it away from the trees!"

Beside him on the bench, Claire leaned her head against his shoulder.

She wore a simple white summer dress, her skin healthy and glowing in the sunlight. Her hands were folded peacefully in her lap, resting over a thick leather sketchbook filled with architectural designs for her new interior design studio—a venture fully funded and supported under her own independent name.

"She put seven drawings on the fridge this morning," Claire said softly, a gentle laugh in her voice. "Your mother spent twenty minutes admiring the drawing of Barnaby riding a dragon."

Daniel chuckled, reaching over to intertwine his fingers with hers. "My mother has officially made Lucy the sole beneficiary of the family foundation. She's completely wrapped around her little finger."

"Who isn't?" Claire smiled, looking up at him.

Daniel turned his head to look at Claire. The shadows that had once guarded his expression were gone, replaced by a warm, deep tranquility that shone from his gray-blue eyes.

"Are you happy, Claire?" Daniel asked softly, his thumb gently tracing the knuckles of her hand.

Claire looked out across the sunny lawn, watching their daughter laugh as Barnaby the stuffed rabbit was safely tucked into the cockpit of the toy airplane. She felt the warm breeze on her face, the solid, unwavering comfort of the man beside her, and the absolute certainty that their dark winter was finally over.

"I'm home, Daniel," Claire whispered, turning to press a soft, sweet kiss against his lips. "We're finally home."
