Chapter 14 - The Midnight RaidDetective Vance’s eyes narrowed sharply as he observed Julian’s frantic reaction. A seasoned investigator knows that a child's spontaneous, specific details are rarely fabricated.
"Mr. Montgomery," Detective Vance said, turning to Julian. "I am placing an immediate freeze on your private office. We are securing a search warrant for your personal hardware."
"You have no probable cause based on the rambling of a child!" Julian shouted, taking a defensive step back.
"I have enough to hold the drive while a judge reviews her statement," Vance replied coldly, signaling to two officers at the door. "Secure Mr. Julian Montgomery's private wing."
Realizing his time had run out, Julian panicked. As the officers stepped forward, he shoved one of them violently into a bookshelf, sending heavy volumes crashing to the floor, and bolted down the grand hallway toward his private quarters.
"Stop him!" Arthur yelled.
Julian locked himself inside his study, frantically pulling a heavy iron crowbar from his fireplace tool set. He raised it high, intending to smash his desktop computer and the external encrypted drives into unrecoverable dust before the police could break through the thick mahogany doors.
Outside in the corridor, officers began using a battering ram against the reinforced door.

Inside, Julian swung the crowbar down with all his strength toward the glowing hard drive.
