Chapter 6 - The Gilded Cage

Within two weeks, Lily’s world underwent a staggering transformation.

The cold alleyways and damp cardboard shelters were replaced by the sunlit suites of Montgomery Manor. Tutors, speech therapists, and private tailors arrived daily. Fine silk dresses were fitted to her small frame, and French leather shoes replaced her bare feet. Yet, despite the luxury, Lily moved through the vast halls like a silent ghost, never letting the silver heart necklace leave her sight.

Arthur spent every available moment with her. The formidable tycoon, known in financial circles as the "Iron Patriarch," was transformed in her presence. He taught her how to play chess in the library, read her stories by the fireplace, and sat patiently beside her as she adjusted to rich meals.

"Grandpa," Lily whispered one afternoon, holding a delicate porcelain tea cup in her hands. "Why do the adults in this house look at me like they want me to disappear?"

Arthur paused, setting down his newspaper. He knew she was referring to Julian and Beatrice, whose thin smiles and cold stares followed Lily whenever Arthur turned his back.

"Because, my sweet girl," Arthur said gently, placing his hand over hers, "some people see this family as a bank account, while others see it as a home. You belong here. Never let anyone convince you otherwise."

Meanwhile, in a private clinic across town, the rush DNA test results arrived in a sealed envelope marked CONFIDENTIAL. Arthur held the paper in his hands, his eyes swelling with emotion as he read the final line: Probability of Biological Grandchild: 99.99%.

The true heir had officially returned.
