The stock market opened with Vance Global officially rebranding to Montgomery-Astraea International.
Instead of crashing, the stock surged twenty-four percent in early trading as global institutional investors realized that the true financial backing and intelligence behind the firm had finally stepped into direct leadership.
I sat at the head of the eighty-foot conference table on the top floor of the Montgomery Tower in midtown Manhattan.
Sunlight flooded through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating the pristine room. Surrounding the table were thirty of the world's most powerful board members, bank directors, and international trade ambassadors.
Arthur Pendelton sat to my right, tapping his pen against his notebook. "The transition is complete, Madam President. Caldwell Vance's counter-lawsuit was dismissed by the Federal District Judge three hours ago due to lack of standing. He is currently staying in a budget motel near Queens, unable to retain private counsel."
"And Sloan Sterling?" I asked smoothly, sipping my morning espresso.
"Her arraignment is set for Thursday," Thaddius reported from the corner of the room. "The prosecution is offering no plea deals. She is looking at seven to ten years in state prison."
I nodded slowly, setting my cup down on the saucer with a soft, satisfying click.
Ten years of silence. Ten years of allowing arrogant, small-minded people to mistake my grace for weakness and my love for subordination.
I looked out over the Manhattan skyline—the city my family had helped build, the market I now commanded, and the empire that was finally restored to its rightful name.
There were no tears left to shed, no lingering regrets, and no shadows from the past.
