Chapter 5 - The Chairman's MarchBack inside the Grand Ballroom, the atmosphere had returned to its high-society cadence, though quiet whispers about my "breakdown" still circulated among the guests.

Caldwell stood near the head table, holding a fresh glass of scotch, surrounded by three major institutional investors. Sloan remained glued to his side, beaming with pride, while Evelyn chatted animatedly with the wife of a federal judge, boasting about how her son was finally getting rid of his "dead weight wife."

"He handled it with such dignity," Evelyn was saying loudly enough for nearby guests to hear. "Saraphina was always so unstable. My Caldwell deserves a true partner like Sloan."

Caldwell raised his glass, offering a arrogant toast to his investors. "To a new era for Vance Global. Unburdened by dead weight."

Suddenly, the heavy mahogany doors at the main entrance of the ballroom burst open.

The chatter in the room instantly died down as three tall, dark-suited corporate security officers stepped inside, clearing a wide path.

Behind them walked Arthur Pendelton—the legendary, formidable Chairman of the Board of Vance Global, a man whose presence alone could move stock markets.

Caldwell’s eyes lit up. He immediately lowered his scotch glass, adjusted his lapels, and put on his most charming, authoritative smile.

"Ah, Arthur!" Caldwell called out loudly, stepping away from his investors and spreading his arms wide. "I was wondering when you’d make it! Come, let me introduce you to the lead underwriters for our Q4 expansion!"

Caldwell took three confident steps forward, preparing to shake the Chairman's hand.

Sloan adjusted her gold dress, flashing her best corporate smile. Evelyn stood up straighter, puffing out her chest with maternal pride.

Arthur Pendelton didn't stop. He didn't smile. He didn't even look at Caldwell.

He walked right past Caldwell’s outstretched hand as if the CEO of Vance Global were nothing more than a ghost standing in the aisle.

Caldwell’s smile froze mid-air. His arm hovered awkwardly in the space between them.

Sloan’s cheerful expression faltered. Evelyn slowly lowered her champagne glass, her brows knitting together in sudden, icy confusion.

Arthur kept walking, taking ten firm, deliberate strides toward the shadowed alcove near the private VIP entrance.

I stepped out from the shadows.

I had changed out of the ruined silk dress into a crisp, perfectly tailored ivory tuxedo suit. My dark hair was swept back, and around my neck rested the five-hundred-carat Montgomery Diamond—an heirloom that hadn't seen the light of day in a decade.

Arthur stopped directly in front of me. In front of two hundred of Manhattan’s most powerful figures, the legendary Chairman of the Board bowed his head deeply.

"The board resolution has been fully executed, Madam President," Arthur announced, his voice echoing through the silent ballroom. "Caldwell Vance is officially terminated."

Caldwell turned around slowly, the color draining from his face so fast he looked as if he had been struck by lightning.

And for the first time in ten years, nobody in that room was laughing.

Here are Chapters 6 through 10, detailing the swift and absolute dismantling of Caldwell, Sloan, and Evelyn as Saraphina steps into the light as the true sovereign of the Montgomery-Astraea empire.
