Chapter 8 - The Cornered RatFlorence stared at her son as if he had lost his mind. "That's absurd! She drove a ten-year-old sedan! She wore sweaters from target! She let me talk her into cleaning the cabin!"

"Look at the official filing, Mom!" Jonathan screamed, shoving his phone into Florence’s face.

Florence squinted at the screen. There, under the official corporate letterhead of Vanguard Capital, was the digitized signature of the company’s President: Charlotte Sterling-Vance.

The realization hit Florence like a physical blow. The quiet, orphaned girl she had humiliated, the girl she had forced to wash filthy laundry on her wedding night, wasn't a helpless nobody. She was the absolute ruler of a multi-billion-dollar empire—and the sole master of Jonathan’s financial survival.

"Oh... oh my god," Florence gasped, clutching her pearls, her smug demeanor evaporating instantly into pure panic. "Jonathan... what did you do? You hit her!"

"You told me to!" Jonathan yelled back, sweat pouring down his forehead. "You told me to teach her respect!"

Before Florence could reply, the glass doors of NexoCloud’s office swung open.

Four men in dark suits carrying heavy leather briefcase-style laptops walked into the lobby, led by a sharp-featured woman with a severe blazer.

"Mr. Jonathan Miller?" the woman asked, presenting a black badge. "I am Sarah Lin, Senior Partner at Deloitte Forensic Services, retained by Vanguard Capital. We are here to conduct a comprehensive audit of NexoCloud's books, server logs, and IP registries. Please escort us to your financial servers immediately."

Jonathan’s stomach plummeted into a dark, bottomless pit.

He knew something that nobody else at NexoCloud knew. He had a dirty secret buried deep inside the company's financial structure—a secret he had created out of sheer panic six months ago when his startup was facing bankruptcy.

To make NexoCloud look hyper-profitable to Vanguard’s initial screeners, Jonathan had fabricated $18 million in fake recurring enterprise contracts using shell companies registered in the Cayman Islands under his brother Chad's name.

He had assumed Vanguard’s standard review would only check high-level revenue figures before wiring the $120 million. Once the money hit his bank account, he had planned to quietly quietly replace the fake contracts with real ones.

He had never anticipated a Tier-1 Forensic Audit.

If Deloitte dug into his offshore accounts, they wouldn't just reject the $120 million investment.

They would send him to federal prison for wire fraud.
