Chapter 20 - Amelia’s Letter
Leo turned eighteen.
Grace brought sealed letter.
Ethan sat nearby but did not ask to read.
Leo opened alone first.
Then returned with red eyes.
“Dad.”
“Yes?”
“She was funny.”
Ethan smiled.
“She was.”
Leo handed one page.
Amelia wrote:
Your father will try to make every mistake into a lesson. Do not let him become unbearable.
Ethan laughed through tears.
Then another:
Sarah is not your mother. Do not ask her to become one out of gratitude. Let people be who they are.
Leo nodded.
That mattered.
Marcus may spend years believing company is family. Love him anyway, but don’t hand him your vote because he asks.
Marcus later laughed.
Fair.
Margaret loves fiercely and controls fiercely. If she learns difference, meet the person she becomes, not only the person I feared.
Leo cried.
Grandmother had changed somewhat before death? She is alive still. He could meet current.

Then Amelia explained Sarah nomination.

He said:

Ethan felt relief.

At eighteen he still couldn’t control until 25.
