Chapter 29 - The Drawing Room

Years later, the old Hale mansion became property of a nonprofit leadership institute after several owners.

The drawing room still existed.

Fireplace.

Different furniture.

Ethan visited once at invitation.

Sarah came too.

They stood where crib had been.

No camera.

No iron.

No Victoria.

Sarah looked around.

“Smaller than I remember.”

Ethan smiled.

“Memories enlarge rooms.”

They had heard Noah say same? Different story—avoid cross-story. Still a generic line okay.

Sarah laughed.

“Maybe.”

The institute planned childcare room elsewhere.

Drawing room used for ethics seminars.

Neither asked for plaque.

Good.

A young staff member dropped stack of papers.

Apologized excessively.

Supervisor said:

“It’s paper.”

Sarah smiled.

Tiny ordinary dignity.

Then they left.

No ceremony.

Space no longer belonged to worst moment.
