Chapter 22 - Leo’s Shares

At twenty-five, Leo received full control of his Hale Meridian economic shares.

Company had changed.

Family no longer dominant.

Employee ownership 20%.

Institutional investors.

Independent board.

Leo owned 8% after dilution? The trust originally 22, but restructures. Let's say 12% now.

Still valuable.

He asked Ethan:

“What should I do?”

Ethan smiled.

“Whatever advisers you choose recommend after you decide goals.”

“No dad opinion?”

“I have one.”

“What?”

“Don’t let anyone call it family duty.”

Leo nodded.

He sold a portion.

Diversified.

Kept some.

Created no foundation named after himself.

He funded child-safety technology research? Maybe tied to story but could feel too neat. Instead he invested in environmental projects consistent his career.

He also funded Sarah’s scholarship once.

Publicly.

Sarah protested less.

“Your money.”

“Exactly.”

He smiled.

Then one day Hale Meridian proposed acquiring childcare-services company.

Leo voted against based governance concerns.

Marcus supported acquisition.

They disagreed.

No family crisis.

After vote Marcus called:

“You killed my deal.”

Leo laughed.

“Board killed.”

“You voted no.”

“Yes.”

“Dinner Sunday?”

“Yes.”

That was healthy.
