Ethan turned sixty.
At dinner Leo asked:
“What do you regret most?”
Dangerous question.
Ethan thought.
“Not the engagement itself.”
Leo looked surprised.
“Why?”
“Because regret can pretend there was one wrong turn.”
“There were many.”
He regretted:
* not noticing Ethan? Here Leo. not noticing Leo's dependence on Sarah?
* believing Victoria’s small accusations against Sarah.
* letting Margaret manage family boundaries.
* leaving Marcus alone with company pressure.
* delaying confrontation.
* treating staff hierarchy as normal.
“What are you proud of?”
Ethan smiled.
“Checking the camera.”
Leo laughed.
“That’s it?”
“No.”
“Listening after.”
Better.
Evidence can open door.
Listening changes behavior.
Then Leo asked:
“Did you ever forgive Victoria?”
“I stopped needing answer.”
Good.
“Grandma?”
“Some things.”
“Marcus?”
“We repaired.”
“Sarah?”
“For what?”
Leo smiled.
“Nothing.”

Sarah had been wrongly accused.
