Chapter 13: The Echo of Legacy

One year after the trial, the Maya Thorne Life Center officially opened its doors at Metro General Hospital. The dedicated wing stood as a towering symbol of survival, equipped with state-of-the-art neonatal care units funded entirely by the Thorne Foundation.
For Khloe, stepping back into the hospital halls was no longer a journey into memory and trauma. Walking down the bright, glass-walled corridors beside Marcus, she felt only purpose.
"You look like you own the place," Marcus murmured softly, his hand resting securely at the small of her back as they guided guests toward the main atrium for the inauguration.
"I don't need to own it," Khloe replied, glancing back at her uncle, Dr. Julian Bennett, who was deep in conversation with the chief of pediatrics. "I just need to know that no mother will ever feel as helpless in this building as I did."
During the ceremony, Marcus took the podium. Facing a room filled with medical pioneers, civic leaders, and press, his voice carried an absolute, quiet authority.

"True wealth," Marcus said into the microphones, "is not measured by the empires we build or the markets we control. It is measured by our capacity to protect the vulnerable and ensure that justice is never bought or silenced. This center is built on that promise."
In the front row, Khloe held a healthy, lively eighteen-month-old Maya on her lap. The little girl clapped her tiny hands at the sound of her father's voice, her bright eyes reflecting the soft lights of the room. The public humiliation and violence that had once threatened to tear their lives apart had been turned into a fortress of hope for thousands of families to come.
