Chapter 15: Whispers of the Past

Despite the absolute resolution of the trial, Marcus maintained a strict, unseen network of private security surrounding his family. True peace, he understood, required perpetual vigilance.

On a quiet Tuesday afternoon, Elijah Vance entered Marcus’s private study at the Thorne Financial Tower. He placed a small leather folder on the polished mahogany desk.

"What is this?" Marcus asked without looking up from his monitors.

"The final audit report on the Rossi Global liquidation," Elijah answered. "Every physical asset, property, and holding has been acquired by neutral third-party trusts or absorbed into community housing funds. There isn't a single shell company or hidden account remaining."

Marcus opened the file, scanning the financial figures with practiced efficiency. Satisfied, he signed the final authorization page and closed the ledger.

"And Isabella?" Marcus asked coldly.

"She has been transferred to a permanent long-term facility in upstate New York," Elijah reported. "No visitors, no financial backing, no influence. She is entirely isolated."

Marcus leaned back in his leather chair, looking out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the sprawling city skyline below. Years ago, he had believed that corporate power was the ultimate defense against the world's malice. Now, he knew that power without moral conviction was merely an invitation to chaos.

"Thank you, Elijah," Marcus said quietly. "Close the file permanently. We don't speak that name in this house again."
