Chapter 8: The Cornered Beast

The glass doors of the Rossi Estate in upstate New York stood wide open, letting in the freezing night wind. Inside, the grand living room was a scene of utter ruin. Paintings had been ripped from the walls, crystal vases lay shattered across the hardwood, and thick legal documents were scattered over the carpet like fallen snow.

Victor Rossi sat alone on the edge of a leather sofa, a half-empty bottle of bourbon in his trembling hand. The glowing red screen of his phone displayed a final, unrelenting text message from his chief financial officer:

ALL OFFSHORE ACCOUNTS IN THE CAYMANS AND ZURICH ARE FROZEN BY FEDERAL ORDER. THERE IS NO MONEY LEFT.

"Thorne..." Victor spat into the dark room, his voice a dry, rasping growl. "You took my company. You put my daughter in a cage. You left me with nothing."

He reached into his heavy coat pocket, pulling out a dark, metallic object that glinted under the dim moonlight filtering through the windows—a unregistered, snub-nosed revolver.

His phone vibrated on the table. He picked it up without looking at the caller ID.

"Victor, don't do anything stupid," came the voice of his former head of private security, secondary and frantic. "Thorne's men are monitoring every road out of the estate. The FBI has a tail on your primary vehicle. It’s over, Victor. Cut a deal."

"Cut a deal with who?" Victor sneered, his eyes bloodshot with raw, unadulterated madness. "The prosecutor who wants to throw Isabella in prison for twenty years? The billionaire who destroyed thirty years of my life in forty-eight hours?"

"He has guards on every floor of the medical center, Victor! You can't reach him!"

"He has guards at the front," Victor whispered, a terrifyingly calm smile touching his cracked lips. "But he forgot who built the east wing of Metro General Hospital twenty years ago. I know every service tunnel, every freight elevator, and every blind spot in that building."

He stood up, his cane clattering to the floor. He didn't need it anymore. Adrenaline, fueled by pure hatred and the bitter despair of a ruined man, surged through his veins.

"If my family is going down," Victor murmured, sliding the cold revolver into his inner coat pocket, "we aren't going alone."

Two miles away, inside the command center of Thorne Security, Elijah Vance stood before a wall of digital monitors. Red icons flickered across a map of the city, tracking the signal pulses from Victor Rossi’s primary devices.

Suddenly, one of the red icons on the main screen went black.

"Sir," a security analyst called out, his fingers flying across his keyboard. "Victor Rossi’s primary phone just went offline. His vehicle’s GPS signal was cut thirty seconds ago."

Elijah’s eyes narrowed into sharp slits. He grabbed his radio instantly. "All units at Metro General, this is Vance. Lock down the VIP wing immediately. Victor Rossi is off the grid. I repeat, full code red lockdown."
