Chapter 14: Shadow in the Cells

Three hundred miles away, inside the high-security block of the federal correctional facility, life moved at a agonizingly slow pace.

Isabella Rossi sat on the edge of her narrow steel cot. Her hands, once adorned with diamond rings and custom manicures, were now rough and calloused. The pristine world of high-society galas, private jets, and unquestioned influence had contracted into a ten-by-eight-foot concrete room.

A heavy mechanical buzz sounded, and the cell door slid open. A female correctional officer stood in the frame. "Rossi. Visitation. Ten minutes."

Isabella rose slowly, her movements drained of all former grace. She walked down the cold corridor into the partition room, sitting behind a thick pane of reinforced glass.

On the other side sat Arthur Pendelton, her family's former attorney, holding a thin manila folder.

"Why are you here, Arthur?" Isabella asked, her voice dry and rasping from disuse. "Did you bring the appeal documents?"

Pendelton looked at her with a quiet, somber expression. "There is no appeal, Isabella. The appellate court denied the motion without hearing. The video evidence and your father's posthumous bank records closed every legal avenue."

Isabella’s hands trembled against the counter. "My father... his estate—"

"The estate was completely liquidated to satisfy the bankruptcy claims and court-ordered restitution," Pendelton interrupted plainly. "The Rossi name has been removed from all commercial registries. There is nothing left, Isabella."

She stared at him, the harsh reality locking in like a physical chain. Her attempt to destroy Khloe Thorne hadn't just failed; it had erased her family's entire existence from the world outside.

"They won," Isabella whispered, a hollow realization settling over her face.

"They didn't just win," Pendelton said softly, standing up and sliding his chair back. "They moved on."
