Chapter 4 - The General Manager's Smile

Marcus Hayes, the General Manager of the Elysium, was pouring himself a stiff drink in his office when the secure red phone on his desk rang. Only two people had that number. Julian, and the true owner of the estate.

He picked it up. "Hayes speaking."

"Marcus," my voice echoed through the receiver. "I trust you saw the spectacle in the lobby tonight?"

Hayes sighed. "I did, Elena. I'm so sorry. I wanted to step in, but Julian threatened to terminate my pension on the spot."

"Julian doesn't have the authority to terminate a busboy," I said coldly. "Check your corporate inbox. The Sterling Trust has unmasked. I am the sole owner of the Elysium. Julian was a contracted operator, and his contract was just terminated with extreme prejudice."

Hayes opened his laptop. He read the legal documents, and a slow, vicious smile spread across his face. Julian had treated the staff like garbage for years.

"What are your orders, Ma'am?" Hayes asked, sitting up completely straight.

"Gather the exact same security team Julian used to throw me out," I commanded. "Go to the penthouse. And Marcus? Don't let them pack."
