Chapter 6 - The Midnight Knock

The heavy, rhythmic pounding on the penthouse door echoed through the freezing suite like a judge’s gavel.

Julian’s head snapped toward the sound. "Finally," he snarled, marching across the marble floor. "I swear to God, I am going to have the night manager on his knees begging for his job!"

He grabbed the brass handle and yanked the door open.

But it wasn't a trembling night manager. It was Marcus Hayes, the General Manager, standing tall with a thick manila folder in his hands. Behind him stood four massive security guards—the exact same guards who had dragged me out of the lobby two hours prior.

"Marcus," Julian snapped, his face purple with rage. "What is the meaning of this? Why is my elevator locked? Why is the power acting up? I want the CTO fired, and I want you to fix this immediately!"

Marcus Hayes didn't flinch. He didn't bow. Instead, he looked at Julian with an expression of sheer pity and disgust.

"I'm afraid I don't take orders from you anymore, Mr. Vance," Hayes said smoothly. He held out the manila folder. "You have exactly three minutes to vacate the premises. Or we will remove you by force."
