Chapter 18 - A Father's LegacyTwo months later, summer had fully embraced New England.

The Beacon Hill mansion was filled with a warm, gentle rhythm. Little Grace was a calm, happy baby who spent her mornings sleeping in a carved wooden bassinet in Gabriel’s study while he reviewed the quarterly reports for Ashford Maritime.
Noah took his duties as a big brother with absolute seriousness. Every afternoon after his tutoring sessions, he would pull a chair up to the bassinet and read adventure stories aloud to his baby sister, while Duke, the German Shepherd, kept a vigilant watch at the foot of the crib.
One quiet Sunday evening, Gabriel sat on the back terrace holding two-month-old Grace against his chest, gently rocking her to sleep as the sun dipped below the Boston horizon, painting the sky in shades of gold and violet.
Harper walked out onto the terrace, holding two glasses of iced tea. She stopped in her tracks, watching the sight of the feared former crime boss whispering softly to a tiny baby girl wrapped in a pink blanket.
"You know," Harper said quietly, walking over and handing him a glass, "if Marcus took a photo of this right now, your reputation in the city would be completely ruined."
Gabriel looked up, a soft, genuine smile gracing his face. "My reputation in the city doesn't matter anymore, Mrs. Ashford. This is my only business now."
Harper sat down beside him, resting her head against his shoulder as Grace drifted off to sleep.
"I received a letter from the city council today," Harper mentioned softly. "They want to name the new community park in South Boston after your mother, Elena Ashford."
Gabriel paused, a look of quiet emotion crossing his features. His mother had died when he was young, long before he entered the dark world of the Boston waterfront.

"She would have loved that," Gabriel whispered. "She always wanted a garden away from the noise."
"Then it's settled," Harper smiled, taking his free hand and intertwining her fingers with his. "We'll build it together."
