Chapter 19 - The Circle ClosesOn a bright autumn afternoon one year later, Gabriel and Harper took Noah and baby Grace—who was now a toddling, energetic one-year-old—on a private day trip down the coast to a quiet cove near Rhode Island.

They sat on a wooden blanket spread over the sandy dunes, watching Noah run along the shoreline with Duke while Grace giggled, clapping her tiny hands at the crashing waves.

Marcus stood a respectful distance away near the SUV, keeping a watchful, protective eye on the perimeter, though the atmosphere was entirely peaceful.

Gabriel pulled Harper close into his lap, wrapping his arms around her waist as they watched their children play against the backdrop of the endless blue ocean.

"Do you ever think about the day you walked into my house?" Gabriel asked softly against her neck.

Harper turned her head slightly, looking at the profile of the man who had rewritten her entire destiny.

"I think about it sometimes," she admitted honestly. "I remember how cold the marble floor felt, and how terrified I was when you pointed a gun at the door. I thought my life was over."

Gabriel squeezed her waist gently. "And now?"

"Now I know that worst night of my life was actually the night my real life began," Harper said, her eyes shining with warmth. "You saved me, Gabriel."

May you like

"No, Harper," Gabriel corrected softly, turning her face toward his so he could look deep into her eyes. "You saved me. I was a man living in a cage made of iron and blood. You brought light into a dark house, and you showed me what it means to actually live."

He leaned down, pressing his lips to hers in a tender, passionate kiss that carried the weight of everything they had survived, everything they had built, and everything they still had ahead of them.
