Chapter 17 - The Final GambitOn the fourth day of the trial, as the prosecution prepared to rest its case, Arthur Vance launched his final, desperate gambit.

During the lunch recess, Julian was intercepted in the private courthouse corridor by Arthur’s chief corporate council, who slid a sealed leather folder into Julian's hands.
Inside were legal transfer deeds for Vance Holdings—an asset portfolio worth over eighty million dollars, including prime real estate across Seattle, Bellevue, and Portland. Attached was a hand-written note from Arthur:
Julian, Sign these papers. Everything I built becomes yours immediately. I will retire to Europe, surrender my voting rights, and never return to Washington. All I ask is that you withdraw your personal testimony and declare the Spokane records unverified. Don't ruin our legacy for a woman who has no future.
Julian walked into the small private conference room where Arthur sat under guard, waiting for the afternoon session to begin.
Arthur looked up, a triumphant glint returning to his eyes. "You saw the deeds? It's everything you were raised to inherit, Julian. The entire empire. All you have to do is take the stand and express reasonable doubt about the signatures on those old documents."
Julian looked down at the deeds representing tens of millions of dollars. Then he looked at the man who had bought, bribed, and stolen his way through life.
"You still don't understand, do you, Dad?" Julian said softly, holding the documents over a heavy metal trash can in the corner of the room.
Arthur’s smile vanished. "Julian, wait—"
With two clean, deliberate motions, Julian tore the eighty-million-dollar asset transfer deeds straight down the middle and dropped the scraps into the trash.

"You gave me a life of luxury built on a foundation of blood and cruelty," Julian said, his eyes blazing with absolute clarity. "I would rather live in a one-bedroom apartment with my mother's honor intact than sit in your glass tower for another second."
Julian turned his back on Arthur's stunned silence and walked back into the courtroom to deliver the final nail in his father's legal coffin.
