Chapter 12 - The Iron GateWhile Elena rebuilt the corporate foundation of her family’s legacy, Richard Vance and Victoria Sterling were experiencing a vastly different reality inside the King County Correctional Facility.
Stripped of her designer dresses, diamonds, and white high heels, Victoria wore a rough orange jumpsuit. Her hair was greasy, her makeup long gone, and her once-arrogant posture had dissolved into permanent, jittery panic.
Across the bulletproof glass in the visitation room stood her father, Arthur Sterling, the founder of Sterling Law Group.
"Dad, you have to get me out of here!" Victoria sobbed into the telephone receiver, her hands shaking uncontrollably against the glass. "It's filthy! The food is inedible! You're the best lawyer in the state—use your contacts! Post my bail!"
Arthur looked at his daughter with a face carved from stone. "The federal judge denied bail, Victoria. They view you and Richard as extreme flight risks because of the Cayman Island accounts."
"It was Richard's idea!" Victoria screamed, tears smearing across the glass. "I was just helping him sign the paperwork! I didn't steal the money!"
"The U.S. Attorney has digital signatures connecting your personal laptop to twelve fraudulent wire transfers," Arthur said coldly. "And to make matters worse, Elena Vance has hired the most aggressive prosecution team in the Pacific Northwest. She isn't settling, Victoria. She wants maximum sentences."
Victoria gripped the phone, her mind racing back to the rainy afternoon in the lobby of Grand Oak Estate. She remembered pushing the humble woman in the teal uniform onto the marble floor. She remembered standing over her, sneering that people like her dirtied her home.

Elena hadn't just defeated them. She had stripped away their status, their money, and their dignity—leaving them with nothing but the cold, hard stone of reality.
