"It wasn't supposed to happen like that!" Thomas screamed, tears of rage and panic springing to his eyes as the police forced him to his knees on the hardwood floor. "Your father was going to fire me, Elena! After thirty years of service, he discovered I was taking kickbacks from contractors! He was going to ruin me!"
"So you tampered with the brake lines on their car," Detective Lin said coldly, snapping heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists.
"I offered him a choice!" Thomas wept, his voice echoing pathetically off the high ceilings. "He refused to negotiate! I took what was mine!"
Elena watched in silence as the man who had pretended to be her protector for half a decade was dragged away in chains. The final piece of the dark puzzle that had haunted her life since the tragic loss of her family was finally laid bare.
