Chapter 12 - The Hidden Medical FileThe following morning, Alexander's legal team alerted him that a tabloid had published a leaked anonymous tip accusing a "former nurse turned nanny" of medical negligence surrounding the death of the late Mrs. Sterling.

Instead of hiding, Alexander took immediate, decisive action. He summoned Dr. Robert Hayes—the chief surgeon who had overseen the delivery three years ago—to the Sterling estate.

The elderly doctor sat nervously in Alexander's private study, sipping water while Elena and Alexander sat across from him.

"Dr. Hayes," Alexander began, his voice dangerously low. "I need the unedited, original logs from the night my wife passed away. The ones that were sealed under hospital confidentiality."

Dr. Hayes swallowed hard, glancing at Elena with a look of profound guilt. "Mr. Sterling... when your wife went into cardiac arrest, the room was in utter chaos. The power backup failed for four minutes. But there is something you were never told because Margaret Sterling asked us to keep it quiet."

Elena gasped. Alexander leaned forward, his knuckles turning white on the mahogany desk. "My mother?"

"Your mother was in the waiting room that night," Dr. Hayes confessed, his voice shaking. "She demanded that the surgical team prioritize saving the heir over your wife when complications arose. When student nurse Elena heard Mrs. Sterling screaming at the staff to ignore the mother's dropping oxygen levels, Elena argued with her. She defied your mother's orders and manually operated the oxygen pump for your wife until the head surgeon arrived."

Alexander stared at the doctor in sheer disbelief.

"Elena didn't harm your wife, Alexander," Dr. Hayes concluded softly. "She fought your mother to try and save her. That is why Margaret had her nursing records hidden and ensured she was dismissed from the hospital the next morning."
