Chapter 20 - The Song of HomeThat evening, a gentle rain fell over the Greenwich estate, pattering softly against the tall glass windows of the West Wing.

Inside, the grand house was filled with light, warmth, and the smell of freshly baked cinnamon bread. There were no cold silences, no distant echoes of grief, and no rigid protocol. Photos of Noah’s soccer games, Elena’s graduation, and family trips covered the grand piano in the living room.
After putting baby Maya to sleep in her crib, Elena walked into Noah’s bedroom.
The eight-year-old was tucked beneath his duvet, looking up at the ceiling where glow-in-the-dark stars illuminated the dark room. Alexander was sitting on the edge of the mattress, finishing a bedtime story.
"Is she sleeping?" Alexander asked softly, looking up as Elena entered.
"Fast asleep," Elena whispered, coming over to sit on the other side of the bed.
Noah reached out, taking Elena's hand on one side and Alexander's on the other, linking all three of them together.
"Mommy?" Noah asked quietly, his eyes growing heavy with sleep.
"Yes, my love?"
"Will you sing it?" he asked softly. "The song from the night the lights went out?"
Elena looked at Alexander, whose grey eyes shone with deep affection under the dim nightlight.
Elena began to hum—the soft, sweet lullaby that had once carried a newborn through the dark, chaotic halls of a hospital, the song that had echoed in a child's heart for years, and the melody that had brought a broken family back together.
Alexander leaned over, resting his hand gently over Elena’s, joining his voice in a soft, low harmony.
Noah closed his eyes, a serene smile resting on his face as he drifted off into peaceful dreams, surrounded by absolute safety.
When they stepped out into the hallway, leaving the door slightly ajar, Alexander pulled Elena into his arms. The grand mansion around them was no longer a cold fortress of wealth and expectation; it was a home built on love, resilience, and second chances.
"Thank you," Alexander whispered into her hair, holding her close against his heart. "For finding us in the dark."
Elena looked up at her husband, kissing him gently under the warm hall light.
"I didn't find you, Alexander," Elena smiled softly. "Love brought us home."

Outside, the rain fell steadily, but inside the Sterling house, the music would play forever.
