"Three years ago, my world ended in the dark of a hospital room," Alexander said quietly, opening the velvet box to reveal a flawless, radiant-cut diamond ring that shimmered beneath the afternoon sunlight. "I thought love was a luxury I could no longer afford, and that my only duty was to protect my son from behind a wall of cold marble."
He took her right hand, his fingers lacing gently through hers.
"You brought life back into this house, Elena. You healed my son, you faced down my family's worst shadows, and you taught me how to feel again. I don't want you here under a contract. I don't want you here as a guardian."
Alexander slid down onto one knee on the gravel path before her.
From across the lawn, little Noah stopped playing with the puppy. Recognizing what was happening, the little boy ran over, his face glowing with pure excitement as he stood beside his father.
"Daddy's asking you to be my real Mommy forever!" Noah beamed, taking Elena's other hand.
Alexander smiled, his eyes locked onto Elena’s tear-filled face. "Elena Vance... will you marry me, and make our family whole?"
Elena let out a shaky, joyful sob. She threw her arms around Alexander's neck, pulling him close as tears of pure relief and happiness spilled down her cheeks.
"Yes!" she cried softly against his shoulder. "Yes, Alexander, a thousand times yes!"
