Chapter 17 - A Wedding of Real HeartsThe morning of the wedding, light streamed through the stained-glass windows of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Outside, thousands of citizens, former patients, and well-wishers lined the streets, holding banners and flowers.

Inside the cathedral, the pews were completely full—but not with politicians, billionaires, or socialites.

Seated in the front rows were the nurses, doctors, and orderlies from the hospital where Elena had once worked. Beside them sat pediatric cancer survivors funded by the Sterling Foundation, staff from the estate who had been treated as family under Elena’s influence, and community leaders from across New York.

When the heavy wooden doors swung open, the grand organ resounded through the vaulted ceiling.

Alexander stood at the altar in a custom black tuxedo, holding six-year-old Noah’s hand. The little boy looked dashing in his matching suit, his eyes sparkling with pure delight.

Then, Elena appeared at the end of the aisle.

She wore a breathtaking A-line gown of ivory satin, with delicate lace sleeves that paid tribute to her modest grace. She carried a simple bouquet of white lilies and blue hydrangeas—the very flowers that grew outside Noah’s playroom window. She walked down the aisle alone, her head held high, radiating warmth, dignity, and courage.

As she reached the altar, Alexander stepped down to take her hand. His voice trembled slightly as he leaned in. "You are the most beautiful sight I have ever seen."

The ceremony was intimate and profound. When it came time for the rings, Noah stepped forward, holding the velvet box proudly.

"Do you, Alexander, take Elena to be your wedded wife, to love and to honor, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer?" the bishop asked.

"I do," Alexander declared, his eyes locked onto Elena’s with unshakeable certainty.

"And do you, Elena, take Alexander..."

"I do," Elena answered before the bishop could even finish, bringing a soft ripple of affectionate laughter through the congregation.

When Alexander pulled Elena into a deep, loving kiss, the cathedral erupted into thunderous applause. Noah jumped up, wrapping his arms around both of their waists. The maid who had once stood outside closed doors was now officially Mrs. Elena Sterling.
